Leo ejected the disc, breathed on it—an old ritual—wiped it with his cotton vest, and tried again. This time, he ran the setup in Windows 98 compatibility mode, disabled the antivirus, and closed every other process. The bar crawled again. 47%... 68%... At 89%, the screen flickered.

But every time he and Sam talked about that night, they swore the game had shown them something real. Not ghosts. Just the memory of joy, preserved in a corrupted data file.
