Within minutes, he discovered the browser window. He climbed the scroll bar like a pole, peered over the edge of an open folder labeled “HOMEWORK,” and gasped.
It started as a joke. Kris had downloaded a weird “shimeji” program — one of those digital desktop pets that walks around, climbs windows, and multiplies if you’re not careful. But instead of the usual anime girl or cat, this one was Ralsei . A tiny, pixel-soft version of him, no bigger than an icon, with a wobbling walk and a fluffy green hat that dragged just behind him. “H-hello
One night, Kris left the laptop open. When they came back, Shimeji Ralsei had gathered every shortcut icon into a circle and was sitting in the middle, knitting what looked like a tiny scarf out of the blue Wi-Fi bars.
